First Home Owner Grant

The current $30,000 First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) ceases on 30 June 2025. Take advantage of this grant to build your first home!

If you own your own land, or are paying the mortgage off, and you’ve never owned a home you’ve owner occupied before, you may be eligible for the FHOG. As new home builders, we often are asked questions about the FHOG for client specific circumstances. While the best place to source the answers to your questions is the Office of State Revenue, we can share what we require from a builder’s perspective.

Must haves from the builder’s perspective:

  1. Your land on which you are wanting to build your home. The FHOG is only for owner occupied homes, which means you cannot purchase vacant land.
  2. Your land must be a registered lot – it will need to have a lot and plan reference.
  3. You will need to know your building budget. When talking budget with your builder, we need to know what funds you have available for the actual construction of your home. Be prepared when moving to a building contract to be required to provide evidence of those funds (may be a combination of cash, loan and FHOG).
  4. Be mindful of deadline for FHOG, you will need to make sure don’t miss the 30 June 2025 deadline to apply for the FHOG.

A great tool to access is the FHOG Eligibility Tester.
